Aims

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the principles of acting for camera in both drama and factual (e.g. presenting) material. Students will also be introduced to the basics of key concepts in visual storytelling.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate and explain the core principles of acting for camera in the creation of drama and factual material.
2.
Undertake filming projects as a performer and as part of a wider creative team demonstrating competent control of key principles.
3.
Describe the relevance of key theories to acting for camera practice and reference known examples of film or television to illustrate the account.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module will cover the key approaches and techniques of acting for camera and introduce students to the technical context of working as an actor in film and TV including basic camera vison mixing and sound operation. The module will place practical skills in the context of communication theory and the construction and deconstruction meaning in visual communication. Selected material of study will reflect a consideration of diversity and equality concerning gender, age, religion, class, disability and ethnicity.
