Aims
This module is designed to introduce key sociological concepts and perspectives, contemporary topics, and analytical techniques related to the study of sociology.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify and discuss key theoretical and conceptual approaches used by sociologists.
2.
Describe how social differentiation within Britain continues to affect the life chances of different social groups within society
3.
Outline a variety of social and structural changes within Britain and explain their impact on different social groups, institutions and society
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module considers key sociological theories and concepts in social inequalities such as: social stratification, poverty and welfare and the sociologies of education and work and employment. These core areas will provide a foundation to build upon in Theories of Social Change and Globalisation as well as Levels 5 & 6.
