Aims
• An informed personal experience of acting techniques drawn principally from the work of Stanislavski and his followers;
• The ability to use appropriate methodology for the interrogation of dramatic texts;
• An understanding of the importance of collaboration, team work, preparation and professional practice for the actor.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify and demonstrate the appropriate use of the principles and techniques of the work of Stanislavski and his followers as applied to a variety of texts.
2.
Describe and demonstrate their own individual process as an actor and identify strategies for its further development.
3.
Explain, and demonstrate a practical understanding of, the integrated (mind/body/voice) nature of acting and performance.
4.
Identify, and demonstrate a broad understanding of, the professional practices of the actor (preparation and rehearsal, etc).
5.
Recognise and identify the techniques required, and demonstrate the ability, to work effectively in an ensemble situation.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:In this module you will apply your Stanislavski-inspired acting techniques to a range of dramatic texts.
The first part will be in the form of a scene study class culminating in an assessed sharing of the work. In this you will;
• Work on scenes from one or a range of Realist plays.
• Learn how to explore the text for information on the world of the play, the characters and the given circumstances.
• Learn how to break the scenes down into smaller sections and how to identify moments of change.
• Find Objectives and Actions connected to your given role.
• Learn how to ‘Action’ your role.
• Internal sharing of the scenes to the rest of your year and invited tutors.
The second part of the module you will work on a cut version of a Realist play, where the parts will be shared.
• The Realist Play Project – work with an IAB tutor or a guest lecturer on a cut version of a Realist play integrating the techniques and concepts explored in terms 1 and 2.
• Internal sharing of work to a selection of invited tutors and students.
Additional Information:The module will allow students to apply Stanislavski techniques to a range of texts. Assessment will be via two sharings of work from Realist theatre.
