Aims

1. A practical and theoretical understanding of what is required to 'prepare to work' (ease, focus, observation and imagination). 2. A theoretical and practical understanding of acting techniques drawn principally from the work of Stanislavski and his followers. 3. An understanding of your own individual approach to acting and a growing development of your own process. 4. An understanding of the importance of collaboration, team work, discipline, preparation and professional practice for the actor.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Explain, summarise, and demonstrate a practical understanding of, the techniques and discipline required in order to ‘prepare to work’.
2.
Explain, summarise, and demonstrate a practical understanding of, the principles and techniques of the work of Stanislavski and his followers. 

3.
Describe and explain their understanding of their own individual process as an actor and identify areas for improvement, along with strategies for further development. 

4.
Explain, and demonstrate a practical understanding of, the integrated (mind/body/voice) nature of acting and performance. 


Module Content

Outline Syllabus:In line with the work of Konstantin Stanislavski and his followers you will explore the following; • Prepare to work (Ease, Focus, Observation, Imagination) • Psycho-Physicality • Introduction to Stanislavski’s principles and the ‘essential questions’. • The Magic ‘If’ • The reality of doing • Improvisation exercises based on the work of Stanislavski and his followers
Additional Information:The module will introduce students to the work Stanislavksi and his followers and also encourage them to consider their own approach to acting. Assessment is via an essay and an observed class.
