Aims

This module aims to serve as one of the core technique classes in the study of acting in order to develop a fundamental and pragmatic understanding and application of the necessary skills required of a Stanislavski-based approach and the formation of an independent methodology utilising improvisation, textual analysis practical realisation of contemporary and reflective evaluation.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Initial investigations will focus on detailed examinations of practitioner techniques, alongside classes that identify the importance of improvisation, freedom and play through imagination, loss of self-consciousness, individual and group exercises. Specific practitioners studied include Constantin Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Sanford Meisner, with influence from additional 21st Century exponents of The System. You will apply learned principles and techniques in the practical realisation of a psychologically driven, naturalistic contemporary text. You will consolidate and evidence this understanding in a practitioner study, examining your discoveries and application of the technical principles of acting across differing media platforms. Selected material of study will reflect a consideration of diversity and equality concerning gender, age, religion, class, disability and ethnicity.
