Aims

To provide students with a practical introduction to building surveying including residential property surveys. To enable students to develop academic and digital literacy skills to perform effectively on the building surveying degree programme

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify and recognise the roles of the building surveyor, and their contribution in practice
2.
Develop and apply practical property surveying skills with a specific focus on residential property
3.
Explain and present the findings and results from property surveys using appropriate presentation skills.
4.
Identify and reflect upon the following aspects of self-awareness in respect of personal development and career planning: strengths and weaknesses, motivations and values, ability to work with others.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Overview of the built environment sector and specifically the Building Surveying discipline Introduction to property surveys with a focus on residential property Completion of surveys including measured survey and condition survey (home report). Surveys will be completed individually and in small groups to enable students to work collaboratively. Introduction to digital technologies and CAD Written communication, report writing, citation and presentation skills Self-reflection: students will also reflect on their skillset and identify key areas for professional and academic development.

Additional Information:This module provides students with an introduction to the building surveying discipline, and the undertaking of residential property surveys. It also develops academic skills and introduces students to the collaborative and inclusive nature of building surveying.
