Aims

To enable the student to appreciate the professional competencies required to be a Construction Manager and to demonstrate some core competencies linked to the workplace such as communication, team work, inclusivity, and use of industry standard software.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify and apply the various forms of academic and digital literacy skills necessary to engage with the learning process in a specific context.
2.
Explain and apply academic problem solving process and recognise its appropriate use.
3.
Evaluate the role of being a professional Construction Manager considering the Professional Bodies competencies.
4.
Identify and apply digital tools used within the role as a Construction Manager.
5.
Identify and reflect upon the following aspects of self-awareness in respect of personal development and career planning: strengths and weaknesses, motivations and values, ability to work with others.
6.
Work and communicate professionally in a collaborative team environment.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module will enable students to work collaboratively to make decisions on a project designed to develop their academic skills within the context of the professional environment. The Professional bodies and the relevance of the role in professionalism as a Construction Manager will also be introduced through the project. The module will introduce and develop a range of competencies that are evidenced within the context of the report and presentation brief such as; software related to academic skills and industry specific software, professional and ethical considerations, report writing, citation and presentation skills. Self-reflection: Students will also reflect on their skillset and identify key areas for professional and academic development.
Module Overview:
This module aims to enable the student to appreciate the professional competencies required to be a Construction Manager and to demonstrate some core competencies linked to the workplace such as communication, team work, inclusivity, and use of industry standard software.
Additional Information:This module is intended to support the transition to higher education and to develop skills throughout the student's progression on the programme and as a Construction Manager.
