Aims

To provide students with practical experience in the methods employed by geographers to collect, statistically analyse, present and interpret primary and secondary data. To develop quantitative and qualitative practical skills, as well as observational skills. To introduce students to self reflection on personal and academic development

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Fieldwork to develop skills in observation and data collection: Practical field skills including qualitative and quantitative data collection and recording. Data acquisition, display and analysis and communication. Fundamental statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics (Averages and measures of dispersion; Distributions and percentiles) & analytical statistics. Qualitative techniques. Small Group Tutorials to develop essential study skills.
Module Overview:
The aim of this module is to provide you with practical experience in the methods employed by geographers to collect, statistically analyse, present and interpret primary and secondary data. You will develop quantitative and qualitative practical skills, as well as observational skills and be introduced to self reflection on personal and academic development.
Additional Information:This module includes a field trip to develop field based data generation skills; data will be generated for use in subsequent statistical skills development
