Aims
To develop students' knowledge of a range of approaches and perspectives on development and learning in the early years.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Explain the biological, environmental and cultural influences which impact on development in the early years.
2.
Identify a range of factors which influence young children’s physical, cognitive, social, emotional and moral development.
3.
Discuss the contribution of some of the major theorists associated with development in the early years.

Outline Syllabus:Students will look at the underpinning principles of children’s early years development, which will include but not be limited to:
Typical and atypical development
Theoretical approaches to child development
Cognitive development
Social development
Emotional development
Moral development
Physical development
