Aims
To introduce students to professional technical and craft practices as used in broadcast media and creative industries, including: managing and organising tasks, people and resources; working to specifications; and applying safe systems of work.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Basic photography concepts, prime lenses
Video camera operations
Capturing the image (depth of field, shutter speed, aperture, gain, light level)
Correct frame rates / scanning systems
Colour balancing
Audio capture (external/internal)
Mic selection & levels
Digital standards & formats, sample rates and quality, sync, connections
Workflow & setup
Manual vs auto settings
Shooting with a DSLR, DSLR audio (second system sound)
“Film-look” cinematography, DSLR phenomenon
Professional “3-chip” cameras & “video look” capture
Lighting set ups
Shooting procedure - take sequence, shot log, continuity
Directing, shot types, framing, sequencing, 180-degree rule, cutaways
Capturing essence for post-production
The grammar of production – in the camera
Data wrangling – management of clips, takes and storage
Module Overview:
To introduce students to professional technical and craft practices as used in broadcast media and creative industries, including: managing and organising tasks, people and resources; working to specifications; and applying safe systems of work. The module is focused towards the skills of audio & video production. Furthermore, the module will introduce students to the equipment used in audio and video production. Students will be required to work both individually and in small groups using equipment to become familiar with its characteristics in a way that also demonstrates safe systems of work.
