The aim of this module is to introduce students to the concept of nursing as an evidence based profession

Understand the characteristics of effective evidence associated with core concepts and practices in nursing

Identify the role of evidence in shaping the development of nursing skills

Reflect on the academic and personal skills associated with nursing practice

Outline Syllabus:Reflection and reflective models
Understanding how to use evidence in practice to promote best practice
Consent
Understanding basic research concepts and methods, such as qualitative and quantitative and associated ethical principles.
Principles of human factors
Self awareness, reflective practice and personal development
Communication
Evaluation of care.
Introduction to the NMC code, professional limitations of nursing, and professional values of nursing and role modelling
Literature searching
Utilisation of research evaluation frameworks.
Introduction to academic writing
Comparisons of quality of care monitoring
Principles of supervision, leadership and management
Principles of organisational structures, systems and processes,
developing skills of analysis and decision making
stress management and resilience

100 hours are guided, this includes online and assessment preparation. Online hours are e-learning.
