Aims

To enable students to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to a pregnant/postnatal woman.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of normal adult human anatomy and physiology including the reproductive system of both male and females and adolescents.
2.
Discuss normal physiological adaptations during pregnancy, birth and the puerperium.
3.
Consider how physiological adaptations to pregnancy, birth and the puerperium can lead to common conditions in pregnancy.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Systems of life: skeletal, integumentary, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, gastro intestinal tract, renal system, muscular system, senses, endocrine system, reproductive system, lymphatic system, portal system, A&P of the breast, genetics, genomics, fetal skull, common conditions in pregnancy related to physiological changes and their management.
Module Overview:
This module will enable you to apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to a pregnant/postnatal woman.
Additional Information:The module will provide the student with a programme of anatomy and physiology, which is applied to midwifery practice. This module aligns to Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards.
