Aims

The aim of this module is facilitate the transition of the student to university. The student will be able to develop the essential personal and study skills essential to succeed on an undergraduate law programme. The student will be given the opportunity to develop working relationships with fellow students and their personal tutor in order to develop a sense of belonging. The student will be asked to reflect upon their experiences.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Introduction to all sources of law including electronic sources. 2. Library searches identifying and locating legal sources. 3. Reading cases. 4. Referencing - how to cite cases, statutes, books and articles. 5. How to prepare essays in law. 6. Approaches to Learning. 7. Self-efficacy and developing confidence. 8. How to prepare for exams in law. 9. Developing Reflective Practice.
Additional Information:This is a core module for LLB Law which develops many of the skills and awareness necessary for the successful completion of a course of study at University. It combines an opportunity to learn how to learn effectively supported by a diet of practical seminars and an evaluation of personal progress. This module also provides students with the legal research and presentation skills they require in order to undertake a law degree by familiarising students with all sources of law and the means by which to locate them.
