This module will demonstrate the ability to provide continuity of midwifery carer across the whole continuum of care and in diverse settings for women and new-born infants with and without complications and additional care needs.
Additional Information:This is a non-standard year-long module, and runs across the course of the year to enable practice to be completed.
This module will build on the knowledge gained across level 4 and at point of assessment allow the student to triangulate their knowledge to enable transfer of knowledge of women in their care.
Students will undertake caseloading in order to expose them to continuity of care within their practice.
Students will be required to pass 100% of their Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement: NMC Proficiencies for Midwives (2019) document (MORA). Under PRSB requirements this assessment document can only be attempted twice and thus an ESR is not permitted.
The Safe Medicate competency will be assessed using an online software package. This needs to be passed at 100% in level 4 in order to prove competence. This also meets the other learning outcomes such as the use of technology, digital media and ensuring safety. Students can be considered for a third attempt at the numeracy competency component (Safe Medicate Practice) in 4100MW.
Students awarded a fail grade for both first and referral attempts at the practice component in 4100MW, will not be allowed to continue on the programme. Where students are given a Final Module Attempt in 4100MW but have previously successfully completed the practice component, this component will be carried forward and will not be required to be attempted again as part of the final module attempt.
