Aims

Develop the knowledge and skills required to produce match/event reports across a number of sports. Work in a number of simulated environments that replicate those that a sports journalist would routinely face. Develop the skills and ethical awareness required to enable them to perform as responsible working sports journalists. Reflect and analyse the journalistic processes undertaken in production elements and discuss issues involved in the practice of sports journalism.

Learning Outcomes

Make judgements about sports editorial issues and provide creative solutions within a limited time frame.
2.
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the distinctive nature and context of sport journalism as a profession.
3.
Produce match/event reports for a specific platform (web/print), inclusive of the range of elements particular to that medium.
4.
Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, information, ideas, argument and analysis.
5.
Reflect on the production process of working in both print and digital media.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module will address the type of writing associated with match/event reporting. The content of the module will reflect the practical aspects of the role of a sports journalist and will aim to recreate a number of the settings sports journalists would routinely face.
Additional Information:The module is designed to equip the would-be sports reporter with the fundamental skills that will enable him/her to operate across a number of journalism platforms. It will cover a range of sports and will deal with the different requirements for each.
