Aims
1. To introduce students to the conventions and techniques of single-camera video production
2. To explore the creative aspects of the moving image in story telling in a group practical situation
3. To provide students with a thorough grounding in the organisational procedures that surround documentary production practice.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Individual and group lectures, masterclasses and workshops introduce the students to:
Mis-en-Scene, craft skills including camerawork, editing, lighting for documentary, sound recording, creativity, storytelling, scripting; storyboarding; reportage; researching and producing a factual idea; producing a fictional film; writing treatments; copyright; production paperwork, including preparing shooting scripts, producing shooting schedules, release forms; conducting recess; conducting interviews etc
Module Overview:
The aim of this module is to introduce you to the conventions and techniques of single-camera video production. You will explore the creative aspects of the moving image in story telling in a group practical situation to gain a thorough grounding in the organisational procedures that surround documentary production practice.

You will explore the creative aspects of the moving image in story telling in a group practical situation to gain a thorough grounding in the organisational procedures that surround documentary production practice.
Additional Information:This module introduces students to the grammar of production and allows them to acquire a range of technical and organisational skills. Through a series of workshops they acquire a basic competency in production techniques, in the basic use of the camera, microphones, lighting and editing software in carrying out a number of organizational tasks and in understanding the rudiments of editing. These skills are then used in the development and production of a storyboard and short film exploring visual narrative and the development and production of a factual film and a fictional film.
