Aims
NAEST forms part of the education and training required to obtain a UK MCA Certificate of Competency. It delivers the fundamental knowledge and skills required to maintain a safe navigational watch, use electronic navigational aids to determine vessel position and equipment for safety of navigation in anti-collision modes.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The course will follow the submission approved by the MCA but topics covered will include the use of Radar, ARPA, ECDIS, AIS and all other navigational equipment commonly found on modern ships. Once familiarised with the equipment, the candidates then use it practically for passage planning, monitoring and collision avoidance.

Candidates must be enrolled on an approved FD or BSc programme in Nautical Science or have completed an approved Cert HE or HNC or other equivalent qualification required by the MCA for issuing an OOW CoC. They must therefore should also have completed the sea time required for first OOW (Deck) CoC in accordance with STCW Regulation II/1
Training and assessment must be undertaken by persons qualified in accordance with the requirements of Section A-1/6 of the STCW code in accordance with the training centre's QMS.
