Aims
The Performance Projects module provides students with performance opportunities that develop skills and collaborative practices established within their programme. Here the students are provided with an opportunity to bring all the elements of their studies together. The module is designed to help students recognise the importance and function of each individual element of process and performance. The module is also designed to help students develop skills in critical appraisal and reflection.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Present an informed approach to rehearsal by drawing upon skills studied across curriculum.
2.
Develop an adept level of creativity/choreographic skills within a group setting under supervision and independently.
3.
Demonstrate confidence and understanding in adopting clear approaches towards working within a professional creative/rehearsal process.
4.
Engage positively in developing performance skills for rehearsal and stage.
5.
Critically appraise their own practice and the practice of others.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:This module is structured around the development and presentation of two performances. The module draws together the skills, knowledge, and experience developed through other modules and provides students with the opportunity to put theory into practice. The focus of the module is on exploring the processes leading to performance (planning, rehearsal etc.) and not simply the performance itself. Covered are:
Planning and research
Rehearsal techniques
Performance
Critical appraisal
The module is heavily tutor directed, with students being encouraged to explore each phase of the production process. For the first performance experience students will be required to keep a production logbook in which they reflect on the process and their understanding of the development of the production. This is then translated into a short critical evaluation.
The module will also introduce students to the collaborative and improvisational aspects inherent in much current dance work. This will include learning the fundamental aspects of choreography and basic improvisational skills.
Additional Information:Sarah E. Baker is the Module Leader.
