Aims

The module is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop their potential as songwriters in a wide variety of settings. The module aims to develop a sense of structural and stylistic awareness, and will lead to the recording and notated presentation of completed songs.

Learning Outcomes

Write songs to a specific brief employing the most frequently encountered song structures

Collaborate as a composer or lyricist
3.
Employ basic arranging skills
4.
Present songs in demo format with accompanying documentation including a 'lead sheet' with chords, melody and lyrics

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The creation and use of lyrics in song, and their relationship to melody, harmony and arrangement will be the focus of study. Students will also be encouraged to develop strategies to write in a variety of contexts.
