Aims
To provide foundation students with an introduction to Physiological processes in animals and plants in preparation for undergraduate degrees in biological or biochemical sciences. The focus will be on mammalian physiology (especially human).
Learning Outcomes
1.
Describe the structural and functional properties of the biological tissues and physiological systems covered in the syllabus.
2.
Explain how these systems operate and are controlled using accurate biological vocabulary.
3.
Interpret biological images and diagrams.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Tissue types- epithelial tissue, connective tissue, excitable tissue, examples of plant tissues
Systems- homeostasis, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular (including blood), respiratory, digestive, reproductive, urinary, immune, musculoskeletal and nutrient/ water transport in plants
Module Overview:
To provide foundation students with an introduction to Physiological processes in animals and plants in preparation for undergraduate degrees in biological or biochemical sciences. The focus will be on mammalian physiology (especially human). As previously stated, mammalian Physiology is the focus, although some examples of plant tissues and plant physiology will be treated for balance.
