Aims
The aims of this module are to enable students to develop the level of English required to study a UK undergraduate programme. Skills in English reading, writing, speaking and listening will be developed. In addition, students will also develop academic and study skills to a standard that will prepare students for study at level 4.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Develop a broad, independent reading vocabulary across a variety of different text types.
2.
Express themselves clearly in English using appropriate words and grammar.
3.
Follow lectures and contribute in English in tutorial and workshop sessions.
4.
Write a linguistically complex essay in response to a specific question
5.
Take effective notes on a complex and unfamiliar text, presentation or lecture.
6.
Interpret and evaluate relevant information and ideas.
7.
Contribute to a group discussion even when the speech is fast.
8.
Research and written tasks and evaluate information and arguments from a number of sources effectively, identifying and incorporating reliable source materials.
9.
Give a well-structured, detailed academic presentation on a given subject.
