Aims

1. To provide an overview of the diverse range of disciplines that comprise wildlife studies

2. To prepare students with a basic grounding for level 4 modules in the programme areas of Zoology, Wildlife Conservation, Biology, Forensic Anthropology and Animal Behaviour

Learning Outcomes

Recall the major taxonomic groups of plants and animals and outline their characteristics
2.
Describe the adaptations of a range of animals to their environments
3.
Discuss the main threats to a variety of plant and animal populations and how these may be mitigated
4.
Identify the common behaviours/adaptations in selected species of animal and plants and explain their purpose
5.
Demonstrate an understanding of the common observational, survey and experimental techniques used in the study of plants and animals

Outline Syllabus:The diversity of plant and animal life; classification; adaptations of plants and animals to different environments; plant and animal populations and communities; behaviour; conserving wildlife; how to study plants and animals via observations surveys and experiments
