Aims

1. Facilitate students to explore historical and cultural aspects of Liverpool. 2. Facilitate trips to engage students and allow them to interact together. 3. Develop students’ knowledge and skills in producing an academic piece of writing, in preparation for Level 4.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will be facilitated through a range of trips to local museums, galleries and attractions likely to include: The Central Library, The Liverpool Museum, The Maritime Museum, The Walker Gallery and Tate Liverpool. Arrangements with museum and gallery curators will facilitate students to explore archive material and learn how museums and galleries organise their collections. From these trips students will select an aspect of Liverpool’s history or culture that they will explore through gathering and organizing information into a written essay, that may also include photographs and illustrations. Running parallel to the trips will be 6 x one-hour lectures by different speakers on different topics related to Liverpool’s history and culture. 2 x one-hour lectures will explain the principles of gathering, collating and summarising information, and of academic writing. A clear structure for students to follow in writing their essay will be provided and explaining. Seminars, of smaller student groups, will support students to discuss and develop the theme of their essay.
Module Overview:
In this module you will explore historical and cultural aspects of Liverpool, including trips to develop knowledge. It enables you to develop skills to produce an academic piece of writing to prepare for Level 4.
